Driving home from Documented Original Tuskegee Airman (DOTA) Franklin J. Macon’s 92nd birthday flight at the United States Air Force Academy, Frank said, “All those reporters and others want me to write a book.” Liz asked, “Why don’t you?” Frank grumbled, “I hate to read and write! I’m dyslexic.” Liz responded, “You want help?” Franklin and Elizabeth started I Wanted to be a Pilot: The Making of a Tuskegee Airman the following week. Elizabeth G. Harper grew up in Hudsonville Michigan and now resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado with her husband, a retired Air Force Lt Col, and their two children. Prior to and after staying home with her children, Elizabeth worked with troubled and adjudicated youth, taught middle school and high school English, and K-12 ELL/ESL. Elizabeth was selected teacher of the year three times in two different states. Today, Elizabeth volunteers for the Hubert L. “Hooks” Jones Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. She serves on the Board as Historian. Elizabeth and her husband also serve as on the Frank Macon Trades Scholarship Charitable Trust Board. They, along with a team of friends and community members, carry on Frank’s Legacy and wish to provide scholarships to students and adults from Colorado who are going into the trades. Please go to franklinmacon.com and macontrust.org for more information. Elizabeth continues to work with her partners at Joyful Traditions, LLC to capture and write the stories of ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives.
