Don't ask me how Frances Ayres got listed as the author here. This is actually Joe Ayres' page. Frances is my wife. Oh well the computer gods strike again. Once I retired and started looking around for things to do. The old desire reappeared. It took a slightly different form. i no longer had any interest in writing the "Great" American novel. I just wanted to see if I could write a novel. The challenge was to alter my writing style from the strict mandates associated with scholarly publications to fluid creative forms. Well, it turns out I did it in the form of the Allen's Fund novels. These novels are about the exploitation of children and people fighting to end the exploitation (all of these novels are available from Amazon in electronic, print, and audible forms). A second series, the generational series, is also complete. In these, I follow a member of each of the classes of 1902, 1922, 1942, 1962, and 1982 from birth to death. Some aspects of their lives are shaped by family, friends and the immediate community. Others are shaped by natural disasters, government policies, etc. These factors often lead to one crises or another. The result provides some insight into the generation gap and societal evolution. These novels are available from Amazon in print and electronic forms. Another novel ("What Now? A Realistic Apocalypse Novel") is also available but not in either series. It is my take on how people would realistically cope without electricity or electronic gear. I have changed directions with my latest novel. The former novels had some educational element to them. The Mick Delaney novels are of the "who done it" sort. Mick is a retired FBI agent who takes on cases for understaffed police departments. The first novel in the series is "The Rusty Killer". It will soon be available on Amazon. Look for it and other Mick Delany novels in the near future. All in all it is great fun and keeps me occupied. I find it interesting that once you create a character. The character tells you what you can and can't do with him or her. You violate the integrity of the work if you go against the grain of the foundation you laid out. In that respect, writing novels is very similar to writing research articles.
