Fred had a long successful career in sales and marketing and general management with high tech companies. In addition to Datotek, he was President and CEO of one publicly-traded company and a Division General Manager of another. During his time at Datotek, he gained a broad knowledge of cryptography and by necessity became conversant in Spanish. He has written articles for business publications and provided business talks, presentations and seminars. In his book, The Business of Secrets, he describes his exploits selling encryption equipment to the intelligence organizations of some 80 countries around the world. Personally he travelled to more than 30 countries, meeting their CIAs, NSAs and the Army, Navy, Airforce and National Guard intelligence groups. The book documents how he and his colleagues established relationships with these organizations, earned their trust and in time provided them with secret coding machines. His adventures include: • Supporting the Omani Armed Forces in their war against the Yemini and Red Chinese backed rebels, resulting in a win for Oman. • Driving through war-torn Beirut in the middle of the night. • Defeating a Peruvian company sponsored by their Navy that tried to copy and reverse engineer his company’s equipment. • Handling the disaster when one of his company’s products was cryptographically broken by a slightly deaf army sergeant. • And more… Fred has a BS in Physics from MIT, an MS in Physics from Texas Christian University, and an MBA for Harvard Business School. Upon retirement, he established a successful consulting firm and taught at Bentley, Northeastern and Suffolk Universities. His hobbies have included sailing, skiing, and running. He has been married to his wonderful wife for 60 years and they have four children, eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
