G. Elliott Morris is a data journalist and United States correspondent for The Economist, where he writes on a range of topics including American politics, elections, and public opinion. He has worked as a polling methodologist at the Pew Research Center and written for several newspapers and websites, including the New York Times and Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia Center for Politics. In 2018, he was hired by The Economist while he was still in college to write stories using numbers and statistics. In 2020, he designed the magazine's first forecasting model for a US presidential election. It was the most accurate model among major media outlets and correctly identified Joe Biden's strong position in the polls months in advance of the contest. Elliott studied political science and history at the University of Texas at Austin. He began forecasting elections when he was 19. He continues to write about politics and government, public opinion, and statistics at his blog, gelliottmorris.com
