Gary Eller is the author of True North and the short fiction collection, Thin Ice and Other Risks. Readers and lovers of the literature of the Great Plains and other rural regions as well as fans of writers such as Wendell Berry, Ron Rash, and Alistair MacLeod will enjoy True North. Eller's writing awards include the River City Award in Fiction, the Fowler Prize, and the Minnesota Voices Award, among others. He is also the recipient of a Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Prior to earning a degree from the the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, he lived in Kodiak, Alaska where he worked as a pharmacist. Gary now resides in Ames, Iowa while spending time during summers in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota where True North is set.
