Geoff Shepard holds degrees from Whittier College and Harvard Law School. He came to Washington upon graduation in 1969, when he was awarded a White House Fellowship, one of the youngest ever selected for this prestigious award. He then joined the Domestic Council at the Nixon White House, where he stayed for five years, becoming associate director in 1972. Geoff also served as deputy counsel on Nixon's Watergate defense team, during which he helped to transcribe the White House tapes; ran the Document Room holding the seized files of H.R. "Bob" Haldeman, John Ehrlichman and John Dean.; and staffed presidential counselors Bryce Harlow and Dean Burch on Watergate matters. He testified as a chain-of-custody witness at the Plumbers Trial and was subpoenaed for the same purpose at the Cover-up Trial. He has a clearance letter from the Special Prosecutor stating that he had never been investigated by their office. Geoff has written three Watergate books, the most recent being published this fall. Book I. The Secret Plot to Make Ted Kennedy President, Inside the Real Watergate Conspiracy (Penguin Sentinel, 2008) details how members of the Kennedy family political dynasty successfully exploited the Watergate Break-in to pave the way for the restoration of Camelot, via Senator Edward Kennedy's expected 1976 presidential run. Book II. The Real Watergate Scandal, Collusion, Conspiracy and the Plot that brought Nixon Down (Regnery, 2015) discloses and discussed documents Geoff uncovered in the internal files of the Watergate Special Prosecution Force that are maintained at our National Archives. These show that prosecutors were meeting secretly with Watergate judges to work out issues in advance of trial, agreed to specific steps to enable Judge John Sirica to name himself to preside at the Cover-up Trial, and improperly kept helpful evidence from Watergate defense lawyers. Book III. Geoff's third book will detail startling issues with prosecutors' secret "Road Map," which they used to convince grand jurors to name Nixon a co-conspirator and to convince the House Judiciary Committee to recommend his impeachment. The Road Map remained secret until the end of 2018, when it was unsealed in response to Geoff's court petition. Learn more on his website at www.ShepardOnWatergate.com.
