Gil Ahrens is the author of three books: The Unwritten Playbook (the most useless business book ever); A Delicate Dance (an historical novel about his mother's German aristocratic family during the tumultuous years surrounding two World Wars); and Shattered; and Shaken and Stirred (an account of a head-on collision with a drunk driver that left his wife paralyzed, but their three week-old daughter miraculously unscathed). His uncles Friedrich Werner Count von der Schulenburg (German ambassador to the USSR) and Fritz-Dietlof Count von der Schulenburg were among the high-ranking German officers who were executed by hanging for their central roles in the July 20, 1944 assassination plot against Adolf Hitler. His grandfather Maximilian Count von der Schulenburg was executed on a suicide mission somewhere in Poland, his body was never discovered. He was born in Suffield, Connecticut and now lives in San Francisco with his family and an adorable but ravenous Norwich Terrier. He holds degrees from New York University and Boston University and studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music.
