Guieswende Rouamba is an instructional designer, educator, and author whose professional journey was shaped by the global spirit of his father, a university English professor who studied in England. Inspired by his father's commitment to education, Guieswende set his sights abroad and began a career marked by resilience, reinvention, and purpose. After earning a bachelor's degree in Literature and Foreign Civilizations in Burkina Faso, Guieswende pursued graduate studies at West Virginia University, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant and completed dual master’s degrees: one in Foreign Languages with a concentration in French and TESOL, and another in Public Administration with a focus on healthcare. While initially aiming to build a career in hospitals or nonprofit organizations, Guieswende eventually found his passion in instructional design, a field that blended his love of teaching with a fascination for technology. This new path sparked a transformation. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology and built a diverse career spanning higher education and corporate consulting. He’s held roles at institutions including the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, University of Notre Dame, Purdue University Fort Wayne, and currently, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. With over a decade of experience, Guieswende has collaborated with subject matter experts, faculty, and organizations to design impactful learning experiences. But through it all, one thing became clear: many instructional designers lack project management training, something he learned through firsthand experience managing complex projects. This realization led to his book, The Instructional Designer’s Guide to Project Management, written for designers who juggle demanding timelines, collaborate across disciplines, and manage competing priorities, often without formal tools or training in project management. His work emphasizes that instructional design isn’t just about content. It's about leadership, planning, communication, and execution. Guieswende has presented at numerous conferences, received multiple grants in instructional innovation, and published research on learning analytics, usability, and student engagement. His goal is to help others work with more clarity, less stress, and greater impact. When he’s not designing courses or presenting workshops, Guieswende plays badminton, mentoring new designers, or writing to advance the field he loves.
