Henrike Christiane Lange is Associate Professor of History of Art and Italian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. The author of 'Giotto’s Arena Chapel and the Triumph of Humility' (Cambridge UP 2023) earned her MA, MPhil, and PhD at Yale University after finishing her Magister Artium in art history and Italian language and literature at Universität Hamburg. Lange’s highly interdisciplinary work engages social art history, architecture, and literature in the European medieval to early modern ages – especially in Rome, Florence, and Venice around artists such as Cimabue, Giotto, Donatello, Mantegna, Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Raphael, and writers such as Augustine, Francis of Assisi, Dante, and Petrarch. Lange's collaboration with Professor of Natural Philosophy Tom McLeish FRS began with the Great American Eclipse of 2017 and resulted in the co-edited volume 'Eclipse and Revelation: Total Solar Eclipses in Science, History, Literature, and the Arts' (Oxford UP 2024).
