Hillary Adrienne Stern was eight years old when she wrote her first novel, a mystery modeled on the Bobbsey Twins mystery books series to which she was then devoted. With her parents encouragement, she submitted her manuscript to the publisher of the Bobbsey Twins books and received, in return, a very kind rejection letter that encouraged her to continue writing. And continue she did. While growing up, she attended a Jewish cultural after-school program run by the Workman's Circle organization which, as its name suggests, was involved in the American labor movement. The stories and songs she learned as a program participant laid the earliest groundwork for her debut novel, The Garment Maker's Daughter. Hillary currently works as an attorney for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with her dog Darcy and has two grown daughters who live in Brooklyn, New York. When not writing, Hillary enjoys studying Italian, learning to ballroom dance, enjoying her home away from home in the Hudson Valley, and traveling pretty much anywhere tourists are welcome.
