THE LATEST: November 19 is the publication date for my new book, SUBMERGED: How a Cold Case Condemned an Innocent Man to Hide a Family's Darkest Secret. After two years and access to all the police files, I was able to solve a murder with evidence the detectives overlooked. I could then expose the police and prosecutorial misconduct that led to a wrongful conviction for the crime. Apple TV is streaming BLACK BIRD, a six-part series based on IN WITH THE DEVIL. It stars Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, Greg Kinnear, Sepideh Moafi, and Ray Liotta. Hauser won an Emmy for his role as the serial kiler. I've been a staff writer and investigative reporter for several publications, including The Nation, New York, Monthly Detroit, Metropolitan Detroit, and Playboy. I was executive editor for Metropolitan Detroit and editor for Chicago magazine. In 2004, I wrote WHEN CORRUPTION WAS KING with Bob Cooley, and in 2010 I wrote IN WITH THE DEVIL with Jimmy Keene. My play about the JFK assassination, ASSASSINATION THEATER, ran for six months in Chicago in 2015. The Netflix documentary, MYTH & MOGUL: JOHN DELOREAN, looks at many of the stories I broke in my book, GRAND DELUSIONS, and features some interviews with me as well. It is very well researched with some great archival footage. It is the first documentary to present a full portrait of JZD, the good and the very bad, including what he did to me to stop the book from getting published.
