After Jackie's three-year-old daughter died, she and her husband had four children. Jackie stayed home, raised and home-schooled them until their freshman year of high school. When the youngest of her four children was sixteen, she claimed that they all were tired of her looking over their shoulders. Her twenty-year-old daughter commented that Jackie needed to “get a life.” So, she did. She decided to become a secondary English Language Arts teacher. That summer, her heart pounded as she stepped into her first class at Johnson Country Community College as a “non-traditional” student. Five years later, Jackie received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, and three years after that, she received her master’s degree. She was fifty-three when she taught her first classes of junior and sophomore students in a public high school. Jackie Guinn has been a Christian for almost fifty years, and she has led many to the Lord through discipleship and teaching small women’s groups. She retired five years ago after teaching high school for fifteen years. She now spends her time writing and traveling with her husband of almost fifty years. Jackie and her husband, Allan, live in Kansas City.
