Jeff Fletcher is an award-winning sports writer who has been writing about Major League Baseball since 1997, including thousands of regular season games and dozens of World Series games and All-Star Games. He has worked in the press boxes of more than 40 major league ballparks. Fletcher has covered the Los Angeles Angels for the Southern California News Group since 2012, reporting on the careers of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani more than any other American reporter. Before that, he covered the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants, chronicling the Moneyball era for the A’s and the greatest years of Barry Bonds’ career with the Giants. He covered Bonds’ 500th, 600th and 700th homers, as well as his record-breaking 756th homer. Fletcher also worked as a national baseball writer for FanHouse, allowing him to travel the country in search of the most interesting stories from around the big leagues. He has served for several years as the chairman of the Los Angeles chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and secretary-treasurer of the San Francisco-Oakland chapter. Fletcher has been a Hall of Fame voter since 2006. Fletcher frequently is interviewed on various local and national media outlets, from television to radio to podcasts. Fletcher grew up in Ohio, and attended Ohio University’s prestigious Scripps School of Journalism. Since graduation, he has been a regular mentor to journalism students. Fletcher had internships at the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Baltimore Sun and Los Angeles Times. In his free time, Fletcher enjoys spending time with his two college-aged children, traveling and playing poker. He regularly competes at the World Series of Poker. He tends to take multi-year breaks in his golf game, but hopes to return to the course again.
