Jennifer Luckett was born and raised in Sharon, Mississippi fifteen minutes outside of Canton. Her books are primarily set in Mississippi or places she's visited, and most of her stories and plot lines, too. Her stories and plots are loosely based on her own personal experiences which come out vividly in the raw, heart-wrenching and sometimes funny stories that she spins for her flock of readers. Many of Jennifer's characters and their stories are inspired by people she's met and known throughout her life. The trials and tribulations, failures and successes of living in Mississippi and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, provides a strong foundation for her work. Jennifer began writing at age fourteen, at least writing seriously. She traced her history in literature all the way back to age five, when she read a single children's book repeatedly. At age fourteen, she won a writing contest sponsored by a teacher. She recalls her teacher speaking with her mother, telling her mother for the first time that her daughter had talent. Jennifer was encouraged. She was later introduced to urban lit by a cousin; and once she began reading urban lit, she knew she had found her passion. It was around 2009 that Luckett began to seriously commit to writing her own urban literature. It was not an easy transition, going from reader to an author. She has had readers contact her, identifying with characters, going through the same issues described in her books. It's that type of feedback that keeps her motivated. Her readers motivate her and are her inspiration. Readers can expect one thing, Drama! An appropriate adjective which she passionately loves to pen, and it describes her work perfectly.
