Jim Denning, Author, Speaker, Counselor Jim Denning is an author, licensed professional counselor, and suicide prevention advocate. After his own experience with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, Jim wrote Make It to Midnight: Learning to Live When You Want to Die. Calling upon his education, personal experiences, and his faith in God, Jim wrote Make It to Midnight to spread a simple message to anyone who needs to hear it: you are not alone, and there is hope and help. Jim spent most of his professional life climbing the career ladder to become a senior IT professional, a member of Mensa, and a technical trainer for NASA. However, when he reached the pinnacle of his career, the accolades didn’t provide an escape from the inner turmoil that he had hoped. His success just led to more pressure, disconnection and, ultimately, despair. He ultimately found a reason to live with his best friend, a rescue dog named Tahoe. Having found a new meaning and mission, he left the business world for good. He started a counseling practice and nonprofit organization so he could help as many people as possible choose to live. Jim has shared his story in dozens of school districts and mental health conferences to teach educators and health-care providers how to help prevent suicide. His work has saved over one hundred lives and counting.
