John Haymond is an award-winning historian who researches the history of military law, the impact of war on society, and historic cases of social injustice. He is the author of three books and is currently working on two new projects: a comprehensive history of capital punishment in the U.S. Army; and a study of the 1917 Houston Mutiny. In addition to his contributions to peer-reviewed academic journals in both the US and Great Britain, he is also a published poet and is a regular contributor to Military History Quarterly and other periodicals. He has a BA in History and English Literature from the University of Minnesota Duluth, and an MSc in History from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2009 after a 21-year military career and currently resides in Tacoma, Washington where he is a history teacher.
