Jonathan Mahler is a longtime staff writer for the New York Times Magazine and the author of the best-selling Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx Is Burning, which was adapted as an ESPN mini-series; The Challenge, a New York Times Notable Book and winner of the Scribes Award; and The Gods of New York (publishing in August 2025). Before the Times, he was a sports columnist for Bloomberg. His investigative journalism and narrative storytelling has been featured in The Best American Sports Writing, and has received numerous honors, including the Gerald Loeb Award and the Mirror Award. He lives in Brooklyn.
