Joseph Safina began his career as an investment banker in 1987. In 1990, he joined Gruntal & Co. as a Senior Vice President, where he played a key role in multimillion-dollar stock and bond offerings, becoming a top institutional and retail producer. He later founded Safina Investments Inc., which evolved into Nichols, Safina, Lerner & Co. Inc. (NSL). As CEO, Joseph led NSL from a startup to a firm with over 200 employees across three offices. NSL participated in billions of dollars in financings alongside syndicate partners such as Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Salomon Brothers, and Goldman Sachs. Under his leadership, Joseph and his team became regulars on CNBC’s Buy, Sell and Hold, Tech Talk, Power Lunch, and Bloomberg television and radio. During his tenure at NSL, Joseph was recognized for his outstanding performance as CEO and was featured on CNBC’s Power Lunch. He was also a published Robb Reader in the Robb Report. One of his most notable honors was being featured in The Winner’s Circle II by R.J. Shook, which profiled the top 10 stockbrokers and how they became the best in the business. In 1996, he successfully negotiated the sale of NSL. In 1997, Joseph founded Safina Asset Management, a private equity firm that has since facilitated the growth and sale of 12 companies, leading to public offerings, private equity acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. He has a deep background in investing in entertainment, particularly music-based companies. As CEO of several major record labels, he oversaw multiple successful projects, including one label that was sold to Universal Music Group (UMG). He has also earned several gold and platinum records. Joseph is a member of the Forbes Finance Council and has authored several articles for Forbes, sharing his expertise in finance, private equity, and business strategy. He is also the author of the bestselling memoir Driven, a gripping testament to the power of ambition and resilience. The book has been praised as “a reminder that the true measure of a person lies not in their victories, but in their ability to rise from the ashes and chase their dreams once again.” Beyond finance and entertainment, Joseph spent over a decade as a professional race car driver, competing in prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, and Petit Le Mans in the IMSA series, achieving impressive results. His passion for cooking led him to author the bestselling cookbook Amici Del Lago, celebrating the art of fine cuisine.
