Kate Innes was born in London, lived and worked in America and Zimbabwe, and is now based in Shropshire, UK. Originally trained as an archaeologist and a teacher, she later worked as a Museum Education Officer, writing poetry in her spare time. After the arrival of her children, Kate began work on her medieval novel 'The Errant Hours' which was published in 2015 and became Book1 of 'The Arrowsmith Trilogy'. Book 2 of the Arrowsmith Trilogy, 'All the Winding World', is set in 1294 during the Anglo-French War. Book 3, 'Wild Labyrinth' was inspired by the ancient Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral & the destruction of the Order of the Knights Templar in 1307. Kate has been writing and performing poetry for many years. Her poem 'Flocks of Words' won 1st prize in the 'Imagined Worlds' Competition held by the Friends of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Her collection of the same name was shortlisted for the Rubery Book Award Poetry category in 2018. Kate's 1st children's book, 'Greencoats', is a historical fantasy set in the West Midlands of England in 1940, shortlisted for the Rubery Book Award Children's Category in 2022. Published in 2024, 'An Ancient Haunting' is Book 1 of the Lily Ash Adventures Series of archaeological books for readers age 10+ Kate runs writing workshops, gives illustrated talks, collaborates with artists and undertakes commissions.
