Kelly Curtiss is full time writer of endearing children's books with vibrant characters that kids love. She’s also a wife, and mother to three daughters and a labradoodle. A part time volunteer firefighter in a small New England town she likes to call home, she loves being outdoors as much as she loves staying up late laughing with friends, and writing down new ideas. Telling good stories is her profession, passion, and also the thing that keeps her up at night wondering how her characters are doing. Kelly’s number one writing goal is to create the type of book that changes lives for young ones; but she’ll settle for writing the type of book that has kids turning pages with excitement. Featured in a number of trade magazines, she set out to pursue writing full time after winning an award in her local paper, and hasn’t stopped since then. Supported mainly by her dog, who insists that walks are an important source of writing breaks, her family tolerates her writing habit, as well. A lifelong ally to animals, Kelly hopes to open her own rescue shelter someday and house it in her backyard. Her love for all living creatures has led to a childhood study in giving way too many hugs to furry creatures. Her kids definitely don’t mind joining her in that! Kelly studied English Literature at Columbia, earning a degree in 1996. You can always find her out in nature somewhere with her girls in tow, cleaning up litter, and learning how to plant edible species for native wildlife. A lifelong learner devoted making the world a better place, she hopes that you and your kids will be inspired by her work to be a better person, and live a life of joy, love, and laughter.
