“What we think, we become.” Buddha Born in Montana on an Air Force base, Laura Freebairn-Smith grew up in San Francisco during the height of the anti-Vietnam, women’s rights, and Civil Rights movements – all movements in which her parents were active. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a BA in Philosophy and Political Science, Laura headed to Thailand where she worked for four years as the Education Coordinator for the International Rescue Committee in two Cambodian refugee camps on the Thai-Cambodian border. She went on to Yale to get her MBA, and to serve as Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director for two nonprofits. She also founded and served as Director of the Organizational Development & Learning Center at Yale. She holds a PhD in Organizational Systems from Saybrook University. She has taught as faculty and guest lecturer at Yale, Georgetown, Central CT State University, and the University of New Haven. Laura is currently a Partner and Co-founder of Organizational Performance Group (OPG), a management consulting firm that believes people and their ability to work together are critical to the success of all organizations. She has been interviewed on a variety of podcasts and television broadcasts. OPG has its own podcast, "OPG Inspire," on which you can hear Laura speaking on topics such as microlevers, abundance leadership, and more. Laura has won leadership and other awards from her community in Greater New Haven. Laura's forthcoming book, Abundance Leaders, is the result of her doctoral research and years of working with leaders from around the world. Laura has published many chapters and articles on topics ranging from leadership to income inequality. Most of those publications can be found on OPG’s website under the Resources section.
