During the course of a career that began in the late 1940s, Lenny Bruce challenged the sanctity of organized religion and other societal and political conventions; he widened the boundaries of free speech. Critic Ralph Gleason said, "So many taboos have been lifted and so many comics have rushed through the doors Lenny opened. He utterly changed the world of comedy". Although Bruce died when he was only 40, his influence on the worlds of comedy, jazz, and satire are incalculable.

"Lenny Bruce Live at the Curran Theatre, San Francisco, Nov 19th 1961" captures the raw, unfiltered brilliance of one of the most influential and controversial comedians of the 20th century. On that historic night in 1961, Lenny Bruce took the stage at the Curran Theatre and unleashed his sharp wit, incisive social commentary, and fearless exploration of taboo topics.

Lenny Bruce was a prominent stand-up comedian, social critic, and satirist who heralded the free-speech movement and helped to push culture towards open and honest expression. He was repeatedly arrested for obscenity. Here he performs at the Gate of Horn in Chicago, December, 1962 - a performance that concludes with his arrest.
