MAGGIE KLINE has been a marriage, family, and child psychotherapist in private practice for over thirty-five years and is a retired school psychologist. She began her career in the 1970s as an elementary school teacher in one of the most ethnically diverse school districts in the USA. Awareness of the growing numbers of troubled youth, she was drawn to discover the root causes of aggression, anxiety, hyperactivity and depression while arming herself with antidotes to help kids get along, feel happier, and succeed. In the early 1990s, Maggie stumbled across the world-renowned trauma expert, Dr. Peter A. Levine, creator of Somatic Experiencing (SE), a physiologically-based, psycho-biological trauma prevention and treatment method to help reverse the effects of toxic stress and devoted herself to studying with him. She soon became a senior international faculty member at the SE Trauma Institute (www.traumahealing.org). Maggie went on to co-author the award-winning book, Trauma Through a Child’s Eyes, and the parenting book, Trauma Proofing Your Kids with Dr. Levine. Asked to teach the content of her books, Maggie was delighted to create "Conscious Connections" PlayShops, which combine art, attachment play, and the neurobiological principles of Somatic Experiencing. This took her on the road teaching internationally to professionals and parents who wish to transform the lives of kids and improve the school experience for all children. Her unique embodied work cultivates a culture of kindness, social-emotional intelligence, and relational repair for students with complex PTSD, in addition to reducing the effects of acute stress reactions from ordinary and extraordinary events. Maggie is featured in fifteen free video interviews produced by www.kidsinthehouse.com to help children cope with trauma and grief. She is now retired from private practice and loves writing, traveling, speaking at conferences, and learning about new cultures by presenting “Trauma through a Child’s Eyes” PlayShops in over 50 cities on 5 continents. Her latest book, Brain-Changing Strategies to Trauma Proof Our Schools: A Heart-Centered Movement for Wiring Well-Being will be released in November 2020.
