My Brooklyn roots and many of my experiences growing up in that famed and often defamed borough reside in my core. It is a background character, sometimes jubilant and buoyant, often cheerless and gloomy, but always affecting and often guiding the lives of the people in my books and stories. Yes, there’s a bigger world out there, and that’s where I live now, but I always return to my source.
