Mark Tullis is a life long addict of classic literature and good books. Writing short stories is both a creative outlet, and poignant catharsis. The words of John Steinbeck capture this theme: “If there is a magic in story writing, and I am convinced that there is, no one has ever been able to reduce it to a recipe that can be passed from one person to another. The formula seems to lie solely in the aching urge of the writer to convey something he feels important to the reader. If the writer has that urge, he may sometimes… find the way to do it.” Besides Steinbeck, Mark has been inspired and influenced by the great Edgar Allen Poe, James Joyce, Harper Lee, Ernest Hemingway, Robert Frost, Henry David Thoreau, Mark Twain, George Orwell, Graucho Marx, Stephen Covey, and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, to name a few. Mark lives with his wife Lynelle, and a plethora of animals including three dogs, a cat, a couple of horses and a donkey named Palido, and a few chickens and rabbits. They live near Asheville, North Carolina, and enjoy gardening and growing shiitake mushrooms, which they eat every day and share with friends.
