Martin Indyk is Distinguished Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. He served twice as U.S. Ambassador to Israel as well as President Clinton's Middle East adviser on the National Security Council. In Clinton's second term he served as assistant secretary of state for Near East Affairs. Prior to serving in the Clinton Administration, he was the founding executive director of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy. After leaving government in 2000, he joined the Brookings Institution where he established its Center for Middle East Policy and the Saban Forum and became director of the Foreign Policy Program and then executive vice president. In 2013 he was appointed President Obama's special envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
