Mat Robinson, also known as “The Gregarious Hermit”, because of his outgoing, introverted nature, was born and raised in England in the 70’s. Studied hard, worked hard, moved to the U.S. in the 90’s, where he worked the corporate life as a software engineer. Became a self employed software contractor, designed websites, and started a photography business. You’d think he’d know what to do by now. During a particularly stressful time in Mat’s life, running his own business, raising a young family, dealing with the loss of several relatives and friends in close succession, and the final straw being the news of his best friend being diagnosed with brain cancer. Life just didn’t seem to make much sense. As he struggled to find meaning from it all, his mind started to frantically search for an answer. Getting louder and louder, thrashing in every direction looking for a solution and questioning every decision he’d ever made. Finally, his mind simply quit when he experienced what’s called an “ego death” and was left with a completely silent mind. Nothing had physically changed about his life during the process, but what was gone was that little voice in his head. No more stress, no drama, no sense of rising panic each morning. Just pure peace and an overwhelming joy that pervaded his whole being. And an indescribable “knowing” that everything was OK. Since his spontaneous spiritual awakening and ego death, he’s been sharing his experience and helping bring about a peaceful transformation in others. He is also trying to earn the distinction of being the “world’s worst motivational speaker” because he literally teaches people to sit down and do nothing. When he’s not teaching or writing, you can find him hiking and spending as much time as possible in nature. He currently lives in New Jersey in the U.S. with his wife and children.
