I was born in Guymon Oklahoma in 1947, to parents that worked in the oilfields, I grew up in the Midwest and the West. In 1960 I was moved to a homestead in the remote regions of the Kenai Peninsula Alaska where I spent my teenage years. In 1987 I met and later married Elizabeth Shockley and moved back to the "Lower 48" where we jointly owned and operated the Adkins Cattle Company, in Marietta Oklahoma. In 1991 we owned and operated the "Lazy L Ranch" Trail Ride and Outfitters in Beaver Utah. I have rode horses across the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma on the old Chisholm Trail. I have been fortunate enough to have drove cattle on the Old Spanish Trail, on some of the last real cattle drives in the west, and shivered in the frosty mornings of a Rocky Mountain fall roundup, in the mountains above Beaver Utah. I now reside in Kanab Utah with my wife and daughter Mandy, where I draw inspiration for my writing from the Red Rock Country, a place where John Wayne and other western actors made so many western movies. I also draw on my years of living in Alaska to write stories of life on the last frontier. A writer cannot write about being cold unless one has been truely cold and i have experienced the third stages of hypothermia. I have been a gold miner and commercial fisherman as well as a trapper, and professional dog racer, and ran the 1979 Iditarod Dog Sled Race, a race over a thousand miles in length from Anchorage to Nome Alaska.
