My name is William Michael Matthews. I go by Michael or Mike so I publish my books under the name of Michael Matthews. I have lived in the United States for over twenty years but I am originally from the west coast of British Columbia. There, I was a boat builder and a dreamer. I built my own sailboat and lived on it in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia and always dreamed of blue water sailing but never quite got there. So, my first novel, "Getting There" is all about a man who is a boat builder and a dreamer and is determined to live his dream of offshore sailing. This award winning novel is filled with the experiences and people from my sailing days. Now I live in Oregon with my wife Masha and we travel as often as we can to her home in China. The people that I meet and the places we travel are all fodder for my writing and every book that I write is sure to have some Chinese touch, thanks to my wife and her family and friends. Another place that we love to travel to is Hawaii and that warm and sunny destination figures big in my life and in my writing. I was honored to win the 2013 Silver Medal for Best Regional E-Book - West for my novel "Getting There". When we are not traveling, I can be found in my office at home, hard at work on another novel. Along with dreaming of sailing offshore, I had a dream to write novels. I did not achieve my dream of sailing the ocean but I am living the dream of writing novels. I'm having a ball doing it and as far as I can see, that's the best reason to do something. All the best to you, Michael Matthews
