Michael Serazio is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Boston College. His research and teaching focuses on media production, advertising, popular culture, political communication, and new media. His latest book is "The Authenticity Industries: Keeping it 'Real' in Media, Culture, and Politics" (now available from Stanford University Press). It tells the story of America's obsession with authenticity through a wide-ranging, behind-the-scenes analysis of the strategies and practices that make platforms, products, and politicians seem 'real' to audiences, consumers, and voters. He previously authored "The Power of Sports: Media and Spectacle in American Culture" (NYU Press, 2019) and "Your Ad Here: The Cool Sell of Guerrilla Marketing" (NYU Press, 2013). A former journalist, has has written essays for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and other publications.
