Follow Michael Stanley at https://www.facebook.com/MichaelStanleyBooks/ Michael Stanley is the writing name of Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip. Both natives of Africa, we have traveled regularly together to Botswana and Zimbabwe over the past twenty years to experience the country with its wide diversity and interesting peoples. Our books reflect the authentic Africa of the 21st century: not merely the politically unstable, desperately poor Africa of the nightly news, but also the emotional conflicts of people with one foot in traditional culture and the other in Western-instigated globalism. The new Africa is not a safari jungle, but a collection of diverse groups and nations struggling to find their way in a rapidly changing context. We enjoy both a local and transglobal collaboration, mainly via e-mail and Skype. Michael lives in Knysna, South Africa; Stanley spends half the year in coastal South Africa and half in Minnesota. Our Botswana thrillers are set around the smart and huge Detective Kubu of the CID. Don't get in his way. His nickname means Hippo! For more about us, our books and Botswana, see http://www.michaelstanleybooks.com or follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MichaelStanleyBooks/ and on Twitter @detectivekubu A DEADLY COVENANT The second Kubu prequel. A digger unearths an old skeleton near the Okavango. But it turns out to be only the first. And then people start dying. “... an exciting insight into crime in Botswana. A thoroughly enjoyable read.” Alexander McCall Smith FACETS OF DEATH A prequel. Kubu’s first case. A vicious heist from the world’s richest diamond mine, but the murders don’t stop there. "...easily one of the best heist novels I've read since Gerald Browne's classic 11 Harrowhouse." Bookpage starred review. SHOOT THE BASTARDS / DEAD OF NIGHT Thriller featuring environmental reporter Crystal Nguyen. Her assignment, covering the rhino poaching and horn smuggling, takes her to Africa, Switzerland, and Vietnam. Then she becomes the target. Can she stop them before they stop her? “An extraordinary tale of the extreme measures taken to combat international poaching and smuggling.” C.J. Box #1 bestselling author DYING TO LIVE What would you risk to live forever? Your life? “A wonderful, original voice—McCall Smith with a dark edge and even darker underbelly.” Peter James #1 bestselling author A DEATH IN THE FAMILY What are the Chinese up to in Botswana? The CIA wants to know. And so does Kubu. “Kubu investigates crimes as dark as the darkest of Nordic Noir… a must read.” Yrsa Sigurðardóttir #1 bestselling author DEADLY HARVEST A witch doctor is murdering people for body parts in awful ways. They say he’s invisible. So how do you stop the invisible man? “... believable and utterly menacing.” Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine DEATH OF THE MANTIS Something deadly is hiding in the Kalahari. People are dying. Will Kubu be one of them? Winner of a Barry Award. “…the best book I’ve read in a very long time. A fantastic read. Brilliant!” Louise Penny THE SECOND DEATH OF GOODLUCK TINUBU / A DEADLY TRADE How can a man die twice – once in a civil war and once in paradise? “The African Columbo … a smart, satisfying, complex mystery.” Entertainment Weekly - A rating A CARRION DEATH Blood diamonds, big business, a killer psychopath. Kubu takes them all on in his debut thriller. “The intricate plotting, a grisly sense of realism … make this a compulsively readable novel.” Publishers Weekly starred review
