Michael T. Compton, MD, MPH is Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons. He completed medical school at University of Virginia and trained in psychiatry, preventive medicine, public health, and community psychiatry at Emory University in Atlanta. He has served on faculty at Emory (2003-2010), The George Washington University School of Medicine (2010-2013), and Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine (2013-2016, while Chairman of Psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital). Dr. Compton has maintained continuous National Institute of Mental Health funding since his early career, conducting research on early psychosis, criminal justice entanglement among persons with serious mental illnesses, and mental health services. His research has led to >250 peer-reviewed publications. He is interested in incorporating public health and prevention into psychiatry, one means of which is by addressing social determinants of health. Dr. Compton is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, and a Member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
