Dr. Holcomb was born and raised in southern West Virginia. Before becoming a United Methodist minister and Navy chaplain, he served as a Marine infantryman during the Vietnam War. His academic accomplishments include two doctorates and six masters degrees. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain. He and his wife, the former Mary Beth Austin of Bluefield, WV, have been married fifty-seven years and live in Virginia Beach, VA.
