Pat O'Connor was born in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1962 to Bob and Marilyn O'Connor. He and his brother David were raised in Mason City, Iowa. Pat graduated Newman High School in 1980. He graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1984. He has worked for IBM, MCIWorldCom, and Alliant Energy. He became a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt in 2007. He has been married to his wife, Joan, since 1987. Their children are Sean, Erin, and Colin.
