Patrick Alexander-Lane is an English born writer who has raised his children in France, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, and California before settling in Miami, Florida. He has worked on four continents as an international financial consultant, a corporate executive and as a university teacher and administrator. These wildly different experiences inspired a series of short stories published in the UK by Lume Books. Patrick's most recent book is BOOMER which tells the story of the Baby Boom generation and covers the social, cultural, political and economic history of Britain and the USA from 1946 till 2024; from Churchill and the Beatles to Covid, Brexit and Trump. Patrick's second book, 'Marcel Proust's Search for Lost Time' was published by Vintage Books in New York in 2009 and was followed by 'The Illustrated Proust' in collaboration with the Californian painter, David Richardson. During the Covid lockdown of 2020, Patrick re-read and compared the novels of Marcel Proust and Anthony Powell. The resulting 'A Dance to Lost Time' was released in June 2022. 'The Booklover's Guide to Wine', based on the successful 6-week wine appreciation program that Patrick has been teaching for the past twenty years, was released by Mango Publishing in September 2017, and featured at the 2017 Miami Book Fair. 'Building Paradise', a history of Miami, the magic city, was released in July 2022 and describes the history of South Florida, the birth of the ‘Magic City’ - its colorful past and its international future. Patrick's first novel 'The Nigerian Letter', was released in 2015. Apart from being an exciting page-turner of a thriller - it is also remarkable for having almost no references to Marcel Proust! ‘Death by Water’, ‘Death on the Eighth’ and 'Dead Naked' form a trilogy set in the fictional South Florida City of Greenhaven and involve (among other things) dead bodies, vicious local politics, nude beaches, the Bay of Pigs and the history of Miami brothels. 'Miami's Murders Most Foul', released January 2019, is a lighthearted but bloody visit to some of South Florida's more exotic and colorful homicides over the past century and a half. A 'True Crime' favorite. When not visiting his grandchildren in France and South Carolina, Patrick and his wife Jude live in Miami where he teaches classes in Wine Appreciation, History and Marcel Proust.
