Paul J. Pastor is a writer and editor living in Oregon. His writings on spirituality and culture blend a love of the Christian Scriptures with wide-ranging interests in literature, ecology, philosophy, and art, and a unique intimacy with the natural world. His work engages timeless ideas that speak boldly to the wounds and possibilities of our age. Paul’s writing is widely recognized for its beauty and depth, and has won numerous awards, including from the Maggie Awards, the Evangelical Press Association, and the Christian Book Association. After earning his M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Seminary, Paul gained a strong reputation as an expert freelance book editor and co-writer (including for his work with international evangelist Luis Palau for his award-winning spiritual memoir, Palau: A Life on Fire). In 2019, Paul joined the editorial team of Penguin Random House, acquiring and championing new books for their WaterBrook and Multnomah imprints. As well, he serves as editor-at-large for Outreach magazine, contributing regular feature essays and interviews with some of the most influential Christian leaders in the United States. Paul lives with his wife Emily (an artist), their three children, and a terrier who wandered out of the woods, on a creek-side property east of Portland, Oregon. He enjoys exploring the backcountry with his family, gardening, writing poetry and fiction, time with friends (preferably beside a bonfire), and of course, finding his new favorite book.
