Hello, my name is Philip Blood. I am a novelist and video game designer, currently living in Southern California. I was born here before moving to Europe at the age of nine, where I attended two boarding schools. These led me to many childhood adventures that are often reflected in my stories. My love affair with the fantasy and science fiction genres began at the English boarding school, which was on the North Sea of Germany. There, I read my first novel, the Hobbit, and that affected my whole life. I started reading everything I could get his hands on, though most of the novels were in Fantasy and then Science fiction. I averaged a book a day for the next thirty years. At fifteen, I returned to Southern California and went to college, becoming a Film major and an English minor. I tried writing a novel while in college but just wasn't ready yet. I became interested in a new kind of game that was just starting, D&D. I got the very first pamphlets (I still have them) and started writing my own stories. After several years of creating custom fantasy worlds for these games, I once again set out to write my first novel. This turned into a four-book fantasy series called Cathexis. Since that time I have continued to write novels and have finished several series in the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. These include Cathexis (4 books), NexLord (3 books), zONE (3 books), and The Archimage Wars series (10 books). I am currently writing a new epic fantasy series called Kingdoms of Magic. A few years ago, I decided to use my film knowledge (as an editor) and put together a team of voice actors to play the parts in my novels to create an Audio Play. I choose to do it this way instead of a typical Audio Book with a single narrator. Although great narrators can do ten or so voices, I still find it odd when a male is trying to do the female parts, or a female trying to voice male parts. To solve this, I decided to do it like a movie and cast almost every part to a different voice actor to create an Audio Play. This has its challenges. An Audio Play takes FAR longer to make, about six months to a year, as opposed to a month or two for an Audio Book. It is also a challenge to balance the different microphone qualities used by the various voice actors (who are all in different parts of the world). But, the listener gets to enjoy the performances of these various voice actors, bringing their unique take to each character. I feel that this is a worthwhile trade-off for the slight variances in the microphone sounds. I even added some sound effects in The Archimage Wars Series of Audio Plays, just for fun. Along the way, besides writing, I became interested in combining my experience in writing and making tabletop games to enter the computer game industry. Over my years in that industry, I produced and designed many shipped game titles and held nearly every position in the game industry from Producer to Lead Designer. However, I retired from that a few years ago and am devoting all my time to writing novels now. Writing is my main passion, and I will continue to put out new novels, regularly, and the occasional Audio Play a well.
