Phyllis Perry grew up in the foothills of northern California and attended the University of California at Berkeley. She writes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction for both adults and young readers. After having taught school for a number of years, she wrote a series of mysteries to help students increase their library skills while having fun reading about Fribble Mouse and his adventures. For students in primary grades, she wrote Mr. Crumb's Secret, The Secret of the Silver Key, The Secrets of the Rock, and The Secrets of the Sea Chest. For students in grades 3-5, she wrote The Case of the Hidden Masterpiece and The Case of the Three-Legged Buffalo. These mysteries for slightly older elementary grade students also teach library skills in research. For teachers of secondary students, she wrote Teaching the Fantasy Novel. These books are also available at Amazon as e-books or paperbacks. After moving to Colorado, Phyllis and husband often visited Rocky Mountain National Park. This led to her writing It Happened in Rocky Mountain National Park and Albums of America: Rocky Mountain National Park for which she searched park archives for historic photos to include in the book. It Happened in Rocky Mountain National Park will be coming out in a new edition in November 2018. Phyllis has also written a new book for History Press called Colorado Vanguards: Historic Trailblasers and Their Local Legacies. Other books by Phyllis on Colorado include Bold Women in Colorado History, Speaking Ill of the Dead: Jerks in Colorado History, as well as the classic children's book, A Kid's Look at Colorado. Her children's picture book, Pandas' Earthquake Escape, based on an actual quake in Wolong Province in China, and illustrated by Susan Detwiler ,won a Mom's Gold Award as well as the award for Best Picture Book of the Year by the Colorado Authors' League. In 2011, Red Chair Press published Sticks and Stones 39 Fun and Simple Games From Around the World. Her picture book, The First Rainbow, won best picture book of the year award from the Colorado Authors' League. Phyllis has written five books for 'Tweens: Wonder World, Hidden Away, Together, Too Many Secrets, and Scuba 4 Ever. Recent books for readers in upper elementary grades or middle level students include: Stand Up and Whistle; Missing Bones; Buddies, Bullies, and Baseball; Deep Sea Divers; and All about Julia Morgan.
