Born in a scientific family, Priscilla Cogan Ph.D. (Clinical Psychology) was initially going to become a physician like her two parents. When Priscila was 13, her oldest sister was killed in a car accident. The turbulent emotions and the family's grief redirected her into the field of Psychology in which she practiced for 29 years. While the clinical director of a 3 county mental health agency, she met her psychologist husband, a Cherokee, and soon began training in Lakota Sioux medicine while also exploring Jungian analysis. Her husband, Duncan Sings-Alone urged her to begin a writing career in the late 1980's. By honoring the differences between the spiritual culture of the Lakota people and modern psychology, Priscilla was able to raise interesting questions about the very nature of reality in the Winona's trilogy. The three books (Winona's Web, Compass of The Heart, and Crack at Dusk:Crook of Dawn)received international acclaim. Her fourth and funniest novel, Double Time, is a novel within a novel. Her fifth novel, The Unraveling Thread, explores the medical mystery of Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome and the struggle of women caught in the sandwich generation. In the late Spring of 2013, Clinging To The Moon, will be published, featuring an unusual friendship and the influence of two characters (Meggie and Hawk) from the Winona trilogy. Priscilla is currently working in the medium of theater, writing plays on themes emerging out of her experiences both as a psychologist and a person enriched by the Native American spiritual perspectives. There is always the presence of a lot of humor in her writing. AS Priscilla Cogan reminds us; In everything serious, there is something funny, and in everything funny, there is something serious.
