Until my mid thirties I promoted and wrote about contemporary art with galleries in New York and Paris (Stefanotty Ltd. & Stefanotti Gallery, 57th St. NYC and Gerard Piltzner, Paris). Concerned about the AIDS crisis and the changing art world, I entered the Carmelites, a Catholic religious order, where I wrote my Masters Thesis in Holland and later received my Doctorate in Historical Spirituality in Rome. After this time I published extensively in academic journals, mainly in Europe, and held teaching positions in Rome and Ireland. Ministerially I gave retreats and assisted as chaplain at Bellevue Hospital when back in the States. Then, returning permanently to take care of my aging father, I spent fourteen years as a chaplain for the Department of Corrections in New Jersey. In 1995 I started publishing Art Murder Mysteries under a pen name. These focused on clerical sexual abuse, the criminal worlds involvement in art thefts and other abuses of power both in art and religion. The three books in “Magnificat” that are now being published separately under my own name were written between 1995 and 2020.
