Rochelle Schieck loves to move - in her body and around the world. She started dancing as a young girl growing up in Minnesota until she was summoned by the call of adventure. Her love of movement and the desire to explore life’s meaning compelled her to spend the last 15+ years traveling around the world as a student and teacher to places throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, India, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Rochelle began instructing various yoga styles for all ages and abilities, several dance modalities and NIA. In the last 10+ years, she has led over 4,000 movement classes, facilitated hundreds of private sessions and taken women on over 20 retreats to 6 different continents. (Next stop, Antarctica!) Her passion to explore the emerging essence of the feminine in her own life, and then in movement, coupled with her experience as a personal trainer, certified massage therapist, shamanic energy healer and her degree in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts have all influenced her creation of the movement system, Qoya. Qoya is based on the idea that through movement, we remember. We remember our essence is wise, wild and free. Wise, wild and free also draw reference to the movement forms we practice: Wise calling on the wisdom of yoga, Wild embodying the creative expression in dance, and Free expanding our capacity to enjoy being in our bodies through feminine movement. There is no way to do Qoya wrong, and the way you know you're doing it right is that it FEELS GOOD. More than feeling good, that it feels true. Qoya also helps us remember those things that can never be put into words. Like when you see a sunset and your whole body exhales. When you are on a road trip and feeling the sensation of adventure. When you get caught up in the contagious laughter of a child or feel the warmth of your lover's body in bed while it is raining outside. The feeling of accomplishment when you completed work you are really proud of or when you catch up with an old friend and at the end of the conversation you really feel like everything is going to be ok. Qoya is designed to feel how the body and movement are a portal to remembering, to feel our perspective shifts from going through the motions to savoring life as sacred. Qoya does this through classes, workshops, rituals, retreats/pilgrimages, teacher trainings, offering free videos online, and a blog in hopes that all that feel the call to remember can be supported on their journey. There are no levels, and it is a movement that people of any age or ability level can do. Qoya is celebrating her 9 year anniversary on March 1st, 2018. Join Rochelle and learn more about her movement in her Ted-style talks on Youtube or by reading her book, Qoya: A Compass for Navigating an Embodied Life that is Wise, Wild and Free.
