Sarah Small practiced law for ten years in Washington state, building a career that was successful. Her life took an unexpected turn when she was suddenly diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder during the time of her divorce, precipitating a mental health crisis that changed her professional trajectory. This challenging period led to the difficult decision to close her law practice to focus on her recovery and seek a different path forward. Sarah shares her powerful journey of mental health, personal transformation, and rebuilding in greater detail in her memoir, "A Sea of Lego & Lavender, a memoir of love, madness and rising from the ashes." The continuation of her story will soon be available in her forthcoming second memoir, "Gold Paint & Purple Flowers, a memoir." Through her experiences, she has gained invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs of living with bipolar disorder, which she now shares with others in the hopes of fostering understanding, empathy, and resilience in the face of adversity. She is passionate about breaking stigmas around mental health in professional settings and showing that diagnosis isn't destiny. Her work demonstrates that professional reinvention doesn't require abandoning hard-earned expertise but rather finding new contexts where that expertise can create unique value while supporting rather than compromising personal wellbeing. By openly sharing both her struggles and her successes, Sarah hopes to light the way for others navigating their own unexpected life transitions, showing that even after significant setbacks, it's possible to build a fulfilling career and life on your own terms. Sarah is living overseas with her new and beloved husband and beloved pets. She still speaks decent Italian. Her Spanish is getting better--cada día.
