Sarfraz Zaidi, MD, FACE, FACP Sarfraz Zaidi, MD was born and raised in Pakistan in a lower middle-class family. He was gifted with great learning skills, which helped him to achieve outstanding academic success. At the age of 25, he graduated as a medical doctor from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan – the oldest and the most prestigious medical school in Pakistan. After completing his post-graduate internship in Medicine and Surgery at Mayo hospital in Pakistan, Dr. Zaidi landed in Zimbabwe as a humanitarian physician as there was severe shortage of doctors created by the exodus of local physicians after the independence of Rhodesia. In Zimbabwe, Dr. Zaidi worked in the department of Pediatrics. “Most of the children suffered from the consequences of malnutrition to the point that even vaccines did not work,” he recalled. Dr. Zaidi embraced the local culture and learned a great deal about “traditional healers” in Africa. Later, Dr. Zaidi arrived in the US and completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University Hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. Afterwards, he served in a doctor-shortage area in the Florida panhandle. “I was living at place that we jokingly called LA – Lower Alabama. I was welcomed by the local community like a member of their own family. The older ladies used to bring me their favorite cakes when they came for an office visit. It was so heart felt.” The quest for more learning took Dr. Zaidi across the US to Los Angeles where he received his fellowship training in Endocrinology and Diabetes at UCLA hospitals. Later, he joined the faculty at UCLA as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine. At that time, he also opened the Jamila Diabetes and Endocrine Medical Center in Southern California. Jamila was his beloved mother’s maiden name. She had tremendous influence in shaping Dr. Zaidi’s personality. Despite all his success, Dr. Zaidi was troubled with what he called “unscientific robotic medicine.” Using the sword of logic, he started to question the “traditional medical treatments of diabetes, thyroid, obesity, vitamin D deficiency…”. And he came up with some breakthrough discoveries. Then came 9/11. “I couldn’t believe how the entire world became so fearful, angry and hateful.” Dr. Zaidi was utterly perplexed. He decided to use logic and diagnose the root cause of humans’ emotional sufferings. And one day he discovered it while walking in his neighborhood park. Over the next few weeks, wisdom flowed through him non-stop. He wrote it down and later published it in the form of books. Dr. Zaidi has developed his unique holistic approach, called SNEVM – Stress management, Nutrition, Exercise-rest, Vitamins and Medications when necessary. By employing this comprehensive strategy, he saw some amazing results in his patients which he discusses in his books. He also frequently writes blogs at his website, DoctorZaidi.com
