Scott Craven is a retired journalist who remembers what it was like to compose words on a typewriter, a device rarely found outside small-town museums. By the time he left, print editions were nearly extinct and in another decade or so may rarely be found outside small-town museums. He lives with his wife and two dogs in a tiny-home community in Oregon, where everybody really knows everyone else (in a friendly, not cult-like, way). When he's not writing, he's enjoying the beer or scenery (often both) offered by the Willamette Valley. "Dead Jed: Adventures of a Middle School Zombie," is the first of three books following a 12-year-old dealing with bullies, homework, and the temporary loss of limbs, not necessarily in that order. Every kid has trouble fitting in, especially in middle school. Now imagine that process when a bully not only can rip off your limb, but beat you over the head with it. Many of the awkward situations described in the book happened to the author, though no loss of body parts occurred. The first book was optioned for a TV movie by Nickelodeon. While the film never was made, it's a fact that will be in his obituary if he has any say. His latest novel, "Upton Arms: An Active Lifestyle Home for the Supernaturally Enhanced," will be published this year by City Owl Press.
