Shelly Tochluk earned a B.A. in Psychology at UCLA, an M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Loyola Marymount University, and a PhD in Depth Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. While completing her degrees she also earned her teaching credential and taught elementary and middle school in Inglewood Unified School District. Since 2005, she has trained teachers to work with Los Angeles’ diverse school population as a professor in the Education Department at Mount Saint Mary’s University–Los Angeles. She is the author of Witnessing Whiteness: The Journey Toward Racial Awareness and Antiracist Action (3rd Edition), Living in the Tension: The Quest for a Spiritualized Racial Justice, and co-author of Being White Today: A Roadmap for a Positive Antiracist Life. Shelly volunteers with AWARE-LA (Alliance of White Anti-Racists Everywhere-Los Angeles) and co-produces their 4-day institute, Unmasking Whiteness, which leads white people into a deeper understanding of their personal relationship to race, whiteness, and systemic racism.
