Shoba Narayan is the author of seven books, all memoirs. Her first book, Monsoon Diary: a memoir with recipes, was a finalist for a James Beard Award. She has been a journalist and columnist for over 30 years, writing about art, culture, food, travel, and wellness for global publications, winning a James Beard MFK Fisher Award for Distinguished Food Writing, and a Pulitzer Fellowship. She is a published poet and the winner of the Erbacce Prize for Poetry 2025. Her poetry book is forthcoming in 2025. Her poetry has been published in or forthcoming from Marrow Magazine, Verseville, Southword, DMQ Review, The Wild Umbrella, La Piccioletta Barca, Mukoli: the magazine of peace, The Stillwater Review, The Mantelpiece, Madras Courier, Indian Literature, The Seraphic Review, Rogue Agent, Humans of the World, Lucky Jefferson and others. Shoba has taught and lectured at universities in India and abroad. She founded and co-created two websites: Project LooM, about Indian textiles, and Jewels of India: about Indian jewellery. She is the host and anchor of Bird Podcast: about birds and nature. It was rated by Audubon as fourth in the top ten podcasts about birds in the world. She has been a commentator on NPR and Radio New Zealand. She serves on the board of Industree Foundation, Neev Academy and Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography. Shoba studied art in college and trained in welded steel sculpture. She has an MFA (ABD) in sculpture from the University of Memphis. She enjoys wine, studies Jung and is a gadget geek. Her lifelong mission is to get fit without exercising and lose weight without dieting.
