When I was 18, I joined the North Rim Longshots, and began to lead two lives - one in a university, the other on a fire crew at Grand Canyon. My Longshot life inspired a string of books about fire, culminating in The Pyrocene. My university life led to books about exploration, Grove Karl Gilbert, Antarctica, the Canyon, and the Voyager mission, culminating in The Great Ages of Discovery. I retired from teaching when I realized my oldest grandchild was the age of ASU's youngest students. Now I'm a writer and urban farmer (sheep, chickens, citrus). If you want to learn more, check out my author’s page at www.stephenpyne.com, then click on Bio, where I include invited talks about my writing and career. Another link explains how I developed my concept of the Pyrocene. And the Farm at the End of the Road? Try aztunis.com.
