Steven P. Gietschier is an archival consultant for The Sporting News. He earned his B.S.F.S. from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Department of History at The Ohio State University. He worked at the Ohio Historical Society and the South Carolina Department of Archives before joining The Sporting News in 1986 and establishing the Sporting News Research Center. After leaving TSN in 2008, he taught American history, sport history, and the history and culture of baseball at a midwestern university before retiring in 2020 and rejoining TSN. Widely published, he is the editor of Replays, Rivalries, and Rumbles: The Most Iconic Moments in American Sports (2017) and is a 2023 recipient of the Society for American Baseball Research's Henry Chadwick Award established to honor baseball's great researchers.
