Sue Cowing grew up in Galesburg, Illinois, home of Carl Sandburg, but she moved to Hawaii to study Chinese history. After earning an MFA in poetry from Vermont College, she published poetry in journals and anthologies, and then began writing both poetry and fiction, mainly for young readers. She still lives and writes in Honolulu. She likes to write with humor, especially in a story with serious themes. Most of the stories she writes have elements of Asian culture in them, and at least one character is some kind of artist.
