Tara Dixon Engel's newest book, "The Handgun Guide for Women: shoot safe, shoot straight and carry with confidence" is based on her experiences as an NRA instructor and as a firearms salesperson at Olde English Outfitters in Tipp City, Ohio. The book offers a no-nonsense approach to women and firearms and answers many of the questions and concerns that women have about learning to shoot. You can find out more on her Facebook page -- Gun Girls. Tara also co-authored Naked In DaNang (Zenith Press, 2004) with Mike Jackson in 2004. The book led her into a career working with veterans and supporting veteran events and activities. As national co-chairman for Operation Welcome Home and Vice President of the American Veterans Institute, Tara dedicated much of her time to planning veterans celebrations and working with elderly and disabled vets seeking VA benefits. Dixon-Engel, who served as Director of Research and Strategic Planning for the National Aviation Hall of Fame, also wrote The Wright Brothers: First in Flight (Sterling Publishing 2007) and Neil Armstrong: One Giant Leap for Mankind (Sterling Publishing, 2008) as well as Welcome Home Grandpa, My Mother Wears Combat Boots, and My Neighbor is a Caterpillar, three books in the Embracing Freedom series that has been used in schools in Ohio and Indiana. She was featured in seasons two, three and four of the PBS/Discovery television series "Legends of Air Power." In 2005, she earned a Telly Award, a Gold Aurora Award and a Crystal Communicator Award for her writing of D-Day: A Crowning Glory, a video tribute to America's D-Day veterans. In 2006, Dixon-Engel received another Telly Award, a Platinum "Best of Show" Aurora Award and a Crystal Communicator award for her writing and narration of Vietnam: A Nation Remembers, a tribute to Vietnam veterans that was featured at the Las Vegas Operation Welcome Home celebration. She is currently working on a new book series for children that will introduce STEM topics in a fun and appealing package.
